New Delhi, Aug. 2 -- As of the latest update, India has established a total of 29,277 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide, with Karnataka leading at 6,097 stations, followed by Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

The Power Ministry introduced guidelines last year for the development of EV charging infrastructure and battery swapping stations. Additionally, the government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, aimed at expanding public charging infrastructure for EVs across the country, alongside a total subsidy allocation of Rs 10,900 crore for EVs. As of April 2025, there are 4,625 operational charging stations in Tier-2 cities.
