Groundwater Consumption in India : 247 BCM Extracted in 2025
India, Aug. 10 -- India extracted 247 billion cubic metres (BCM) of groundwater in 2025, with irrigation accounting for 215 BCM or 87% of total extraction. The national stage of groundwater extraction stood at 60.63%, while groundwater was generally potable and nearly 99% of monitoring stations reported quality suitable for irrigation, according to government assessments. The information was provided by THE MINISTER OF JAL SHAKTI C R PATIL in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
