New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- The government has notified the National Policy on Geothermal Energy (2025) to bolster its 2070 Net Zero Goal and strengthen energy security.
This policy establishes a framework for exploring, developing, and utilizing India's geothermal resources for power generation and direct-use applications, such as heating, agriculture, and aquaculture. It promotes research, inter-ministerial and international collaboration, and the development of advanced geothermal systems.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is responsible for regulatory oversight and has initiated five pilot and resource assessment projects.
