New Delhi, Sept. 19 -- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that rules for the Promotion and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2025, will take effect on October 1.

The Act, notified on August 22, outlaws online real-money games, classified as either skill or chance, making their provision or participation illegal.

The government has been consulting with industry stakeholders for three years, with a final round of consultations pending.

The Minister also detailed the 'India AI Mission,' aiming to establish over 500 data labs and fund the development of large language models (LLMs) with significant investment and selected companies.
