New Delhi, Sept. 20 -- The Indian government and Nasscom are evaluating the implications of a new $100,000 annual fee for H-1B visas, effective September 21.

This change is expected to significantly impact US companies dependent on Indian tech talent, potentially leading to an increase in Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India to address U.S. talent shortages.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that India hosts nearly half of the world's GCCs, which play a critical role in innovation and job creation. Despite the fee hike, Indian IT firms have reduced reliance on H-1B visas by over 50%, focusing on local hiring and automation, suggesting minimal business impact from the new fee structure.
