New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- NDA nominee C.P. Radhakrishnan has been elected the new Vice President, defeating opposition nominee Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy with 452 votes to 300. The election saw a turnout of 752 members from the electoral college, which comprises both Houses of Parliament.
This contest was noted as a rare "South vs South" electoral battle. The Vice President also functions as the ex officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
With more than four decades experience, C P Radhakrishnan is a respected name in the polity and public life of Tamil Nadu.
