India, March 16 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the fire mishap at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha's Cuttack that claimed at least 10 lives on Monday and announced financial assistance for the victims' families.

He said the incident was deeply painful and extended condolences to those who lost their family members. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased. Those injured in the incident will receive Rs 50,000.
