India, March 18 -- The Odisha Vigilance today arrested a banker for embezzlement of government funds to the tune of Rs 5.56 crore in Jajpur district.

The arrested has been identified as Matruprasad Mohanty, the branch head of Jana Small Finance Bank in Bhadrak.

The accused in connivance with his father Pradip Kumar Mohanty, a retired headmaster, misappropriated the funds by targeting the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Korei in Jajpur.

The accused's father, who was re-engaged at the BEO office, allegedly accessed the Human Resource Management System of the School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department to facilitate the misappropriation of the government funds.
