India, Sept. 25 -- IPS officer Saravana Vivek M assumed charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The Odisha government had appointed Saravana as the new DCP of the capital city on September 22.

Saravana, a 2015-batch IPS officer, succeeded Jagmohan Meena, who quit the IPS job on personal grounds.

Saravana was earlier working as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Berhampur.

"Dr Saravana Vivek M, IPS, assumed charge as DCP, Bhubaneswar UPD, on September 25. He seeks the goodwill and blessings of the people of Bhubaneswar and pledges to work tirelessly for their safety, security and welfare," said the Commissionerate Police in a statement.
