India, Oct. 26 -- In a major development ahead of the 2026-27 edition of the world-famous Bargarh Dhanu Yatra, actor Sushil Meher has decided to step aside from playing the role of Maharaj Kans for one year.

Meher, who was selected to portray the mythological demon king Kans for the 2025-26 Dhanu Yatra, has submitted a letter seeking a one-year break to Bargarh Collector and Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav Samiti president Aditya Goyal.

The actor said he would be willing to return to the arena in the future if the Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav Samiti gives him another opportunity.

Meher said he took the decision after controversies surrounding his performance caused him mental distress. He alleged the controversy had been created by vested-interest group...
