India, Sept. 13 -- A six-year-old girl was killed after a bus ran over her near Dhaupada village under the Badagada police station limits in Odisha's Ganjam district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Kalpana Nayak, daughter of Krishna Nayak of Dhaupada village.

According to reports, Kalpana was standing by the roadside near the village when a bus ran over her. She died on the spot.

Following the accident, tension prevailed in the area as locals blocked the road in protest.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.
