In the Asian trading session, oil prices were sharply lower. Brent crude futures tumbled 1.8 percent to $92.72 a barrel.
Gold extended gains. Spot gold was up 0.7 percent at $4,637 an ounce.
Initial signs from the U.S. Futures Index suggest that Wall Street might open lower.
