India, Oct. 23 -- Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SPCX) is in talks with cellular infrastructure companies to gain access to at least 80,000 sites across the United States, potentially advancing its plans to build a fourth nationwide wireless carrier.
The company, which is acquiring nationwide low-band spectrum to expand Starlink mobile services, is in discussions with infrastructure provider Crown Castle. The proposed 80,000 sites would represent about half of the 158,500 purpose-built cell towers operating in the U.S. last year.
Crown Castle operates about 40,000 U.S. cell towers, while American Tower has roughly 42,000 sites and privately held Vertical Bridge owns around 18,000.
