India, June 22 -- Egypt's long-awaited dream of a World Cup victory finally became a reality on Sunday, as Mohamed Salah led the team to a 3-1 victory against New Zealand - 92 years after their first appearance in this tournament.

The Egypt captain not only scored the winning goal against New Zealand, but became the first Egyptian to score in two editions of the global showpiece.

New Zealand started aggressively at BC Place Vancouver, and Finn Surman gave them lead with a bullet header in the 15th minute.

Mostafa Zico then pulled the side back into the game with a free header in the 58th minute.

Nine minutes later Salah struck the decisive blow, brightening Egypt's chances of qualifying to the next stage from Group G.
