India, Sept. 21 -- A 2026 study of nearly 88,000 adults found that regular exercise may reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes at any age.

Researchers from Leiden University Medical Center studied 87,975 people from the UK Biobank who did not have diabetes when the study began. The participants wore wrist devices for seven days to measure how much physical activity they did. Their health was then monitored for an average of 7.7 years. During that time, 2,140 people developed type 2 diabetes.

Among people younger than 63, those who were less active had more than twice the relative risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with those who were highly active.
