India, Sept. 16 -- The British pound weakened against other major currencies in the European session on Wednesday, despite the release of the United Kingdom (UK) Consumer Price Index (CPI) report of August.

Data from the Office for National Statistics showed that the U.K. consumer price inflation rose to a five-month high in August largely due to higher motor fuel prices. Inflation advanced to 3.1 percent from 2.9 percent in July. The rate came in line with expectations.
