India, Sept. 16 -- The estate of late Mastodon guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds has sued the surviving members of the band, alleging he was not properly compensated for his ownership stake and that his likeness was used without permission to promote the group's latest album, Marrow Deep.

The civil lawsuit was filed earlier this month in Fulton County Court in Georgia. According to the complaint, Mastodon offered Hinds an $80,000 buyout for his interests in the band's related businesses, but he never signed the proposed separation agreement before his death. The estate has declined to cash the check pending a full accounting of the value of his stake.
