India, Nov. 2 -- European stocks struggled for direction on Monday after Fitch warned that France's debt outlook is worsening, expressing doubts about the country's ability to sustainably restore its public finances after the 2027 presidential election.

Investors were also reacting to data that showed Germany's retail sales declined unexpectedly in September.

Retail sales dropped 2.0 percent on a monthly basis in September, in contrast to the 1.2 percent increase seen in August, Destatis said.
