India, Oct. 7 -- After moving mostly higher over the two previous sessions, Canadian stocks showed a significant move back to the downside during trading on Wednesday.

The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index fell sharply in early trading and remained firmly negative throughout the day before closing down 607.65 points or 1.7 percent at 35,041.86.

With the sharp pullback on the day, the S&P/TSX Composite Index more than offset the gains posted over the past two days, falling to its lowest closing level in well over two months.
