India, Aug. 25 -- Australia has confirmed its first case of H5N1 bird flu in a mammal after the virus was found in a long-nosed fur seal in South Australia. The seal was found dead in Beachport, about 310 kilometres from Adelaide, with no visible injuries. Authorities said there was no evidence that its death was linked to other sick or dead marine animals.
Australia has been dealing with the highly contagious bird flu since it was first detected in the country in June. The virus was initially found in a migratory bird before spreading to native bird species.
