France, July 25 -- The legal action, which draws on an advisory opinion issued on 19 July, 2024 by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations' highest judicial body, is being led by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Juristes pour le respect du droit international (JURDI), the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), the Ligue des droits humains (LDH), and Law for Palestine.

In its opinion, the ICJ found that "Israel's continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful" and stated in particular that UN member states must "take measures to prevent trade or investment relations that assist in maintaining" this "unlawful situation".
