Gea targets Davis Cup heroics for France after US Open last-16 exit
France, Sept. 8 -- The five-match tie takes place on 18 and 19 September in Quebec as part of the qualifying campaign for the eight-nation Davis Cup Finals in Bologna in Italy in November.
"Playing for France would be an honour," said Gea who lost his last-16 match against Botic van de Zandschulp in five sets after squandering a match point during the third set.
In the fourth set, Gea served for the match at 5-4 up against the 30-year-old Dutchman but failed to exploit his opportunity.
Van de Zandschulp claimed the encounter after five hours and 13 minutes.
"I don't think it would be too soon because I was the last French player left at the US Open," said Gea who was among 12 Frenchmen in the main draw.
