France, Oct. 23 -- The European Union has agreed a new set of sanctions against Russia that target its 'shadow fleet' of oil tankers and ban its imports of liquefied natural gas, the Danish EU presidency confirmed on Thursday.

"Today is a good day for Europe and Ukraine," Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said in a statement as EU leaders gathered for a one-day summit in Brussels with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

A new system for limiting the movement of Russian diplomats within the 27-nation EU will also be introduced.

The number in the "shadow fleet" stands at 558 after 117 more ships were added to the list of vesselsbanned by theEuropean Unionfor bypassing sanctions on Russia.
