Tension escalates in Sunsari's Koshi river belt as shops looted, torched
Nepal, July 28 -- Tensions have escalated in the Koshi river belt of Sunsari after protesters allegedly looted, vandalized and set fire to shops while continuing demonstrations over Sunday's fatal police shooting in Dewanganj.
The violence was reported in the Koshi Katan area, where protesters also blocked the East-West Highway by burning tires at several locations. Police have been deployed in the area to maintain security.
The protests stem from Sunday's clash between two groups in Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Kaptanganj, during which police opened fire while attempting to control the situation. One person was killed and nine others were injured in the incident.
