Nepal, July 25 -- Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel resigned on Friday.

Addressing a meeting of the Karnali Province Assembly, Chief Minister Kandel announced his resignation.

The Province Assembly meeting had been convened at 3:00 PM to discuss a no-confidence motion registered against Kandel on July 16.

Before the Assembly could vote on the motion, Kandel stepped down, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the province.

A total of 16 Province Assembly members from the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Nepali Communist Party had registered the no-confidence motion against Kandel on July 16.
