Nepal, July 30 -- Authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew in Janakpur following protests over the recent violence in Kaptanganj, Sunsari.

The curfew came into effect at 3:30 PM. Thursday and will remain in force until further notice, according to Dhanusha Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel.

Protests had been taking place across different parts of Janakpur since Thursday morning in response to the Sunsari incident.

The curfew covers the entire Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City as well as designated areas of Laxminiya Rural Municipality and Nagarain Municipality.

Under the order, public gatherings, rallies, demonstrations and sit-ins have been prohibited in the affected areas until further notice.
