Nigeria, July 31 -- The US State Department displayed an AI-generated map that incorrectly labelled African countries, including placing Nigeria and several others in the wrong parts of the continent.

The presentation was made at the 26th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2026) in Brazil, Reuters reported.

The map, shown during a session on the State Department's new global health agreements, misplaced multiple countries.

Nigeria was depicted as a landlocked nation in the Sahara Desert rather than in West Africa, while Mozambique was relocated from southeastern Africa to the Horn of Africa. Cote d'Ivoire was also incorrectly placed on the opposite side of the continent.
