Nigeria, Aug. 28 -- Two people have died after a collapsed refuse dump struck a building at Ikot Effanga along Old Odukpani Road in Calabar, Cross River State, the police said.

The incident occurred on Friday, according to a statement by the state police spokesperson, Sunday Eitokpah.

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Ekpenyong Cobham, has also confirmed the incident to this newspaper.

Police personnel, who responded to the scene, found that the collapsed refuse had impacted a building reportedly constructed within a valley, killing two occupants.

The deceased were identified as Nfon Ime, a male, and an unidentified female who was believed to have been inside the building when the incident occurred.
