Nigeria, Sept. 25 -- President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday conferred the posthumous honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger on four Ogoni chiefs killed during the Ogoni crisis in the 90s.

They are Edward Kobani, Albert Bade, Samuel Orage, and Theophilus Orage.

The then-military regime of Sani Abacha had accused the Nigerian writer and environmental rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and eight other Ogoni chiefs of being responsible for the killing of the Ogoni Four.

Mr Saro-Wiwa and Co, who denied the allegation, were hanged in 1995 after a military tribunal tried and convicted them of murder, an action that provoked global outrage against the Nigerian government.
