Nigeria, Aug. 13 -- The Plateau State Executive Council has approved the establishment of a Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction as part of efforts to improve the coordination of government interventions for vulnerable residents and people affected by emergencies.

The decision was taken at the council's meeting presided over by Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on Wednesday.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, disclosed the council's resolutions in a statement.

Mrs Ramnap said the new ministry would provide a dedicated institutional framework for coordinating humanitarian assistance, social protection and poverty-reduction programmes across Plateau.
