Nigeria, July 30 -- The lone opposition lawmaker in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Muhammad Kabir, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr Kabir represents the Birnin Kudu Local Government Area-the home of former governor and PDP leader in the state, Sule Lamido. He announced his defection on Wednesday at an elaborate event at the Government House, Dutse, attended by the Speaker of the Assembly, Haruna Aliyu.

With this development, all 30 members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly are now in the APC. Mr Kabir's defection followed a similar move by Yahaya Zakari, who previously represented the Fagam constituency on the PDP platform.
