Nigeria, Aug. 22 -- Two days after announcing his separation from his wife of twenty-eight years, Kunemofa, multi-award-winning gospel artist Asu Ekiye, has explained how their marriage ended.

On Thursday, PREMIUM TIMES reported that Ekiye, known as the "Prince of the Niger Delta", announced that he and Ms Kunemofa had gone their separate ways. The couple married in 1998 and have four children together.

However, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, the "Woekilemo" hitmaker said his wife initiated the decision to end their marriage.

The singer said: "Based on the numerous calls and messages I have received, I believe it is necessary to offer this clarification, respectfully and without any intention to cast aspersions...
