Nigeria, Aug. 16 -- Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has scored the highest number of votes in Osogbo Local Government Area in Saturday's governorship election in Osun State.

Mr Adeleke, who is seeking re-election, polled 36,480 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 30,474 votes.

The returning officer for the local government, Ikenna Odoh, announced the result at about 12:10 a.m. on Sunday after collating the results in the presence of party agents and observers.

The local government has 167,704 registered voters, of whom 70,840 were accredited. A total of 69,307 valid votes were recorded.

Osogbo Local Government has 15 registration areas.
