Philippines, March 3 -- An amendment to the founding charter of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) took effect on 1 March 2026. It will enable a 50% increase in lending to address development priorities in the region. The amendment-the first to the ADB Charter since the institution was created in 1966-removes a lending limitation on ordinary operations and is part of wider actions to optimize the use of scarce capital resources provided by shareholders to maximize support for the poor and vulnerable across the region.
