India, April 15 -- The Constitution amendment bill proposing 33 per cent reservation for women from 2029 does not specify the exact number of Lok Sabha seats to be enhanced from the current 543, stating that the total membership should be "not more than" 850, with the final figure to be decided by a delimitation commission.

Government sources said the allocation of seats among states and union territories will be based on proportional representation, and southern states are likely to benefit under this formula.
