India, July 23 -- Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was on Wednesday cremated with full State honours in his ancestral town of Baraut here in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

His son, Abhishek, lit the funeral pyre at the cremation ground near Bawli Chungi on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway. A guard of honour was accorded to the senior IPS officer before the last rites.

Dhankar (60) was found hanging in his washroom at the Tripura police headquarters on Monday. Officials have said it appears to be a case of suicide. He was elevated to the post of DGP from Additional DGP in May 2025 and was due to retire in 11 months.
