India, June 23 -- The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday expelled 8 senior leaders, including Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas, citing "anti-party activities" amid escalating internal turmoil within the West Bengal-based party.

According to party sources, the disciplinary action comes in the backdrop of a deepening leadership crisis and widening factional rift, with multiple leaders allegedly engaging in actions viewed as contrary to the party's official stance.

Both Hakim and Biswas, who have held key administrative and organisational roles in the West Bengal government and TMC structure, are among the most prominent names to face expulsion in the ongoing shake-up.
