India, May 11 -- Suvendu Adhikari on Monday chaired the first Cabinet meeting of the newly formed West Bengal government, two days after taking oath as Chief Minister.

The meeting was held at Nabanna, the state secretariat in Howrah, and was attended by five ministers who were sworn in along with Adhikari, senior bureaucrats and top government officials.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister said the new government would function according to constitutional principles and move away from political favouritism in governance.
