Supreme Court seeks Delhi Police report on assault of lawyer
India, July 14 -- The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi Police to submit a status report on the investigation into the recent assault on an advocate in the national capital. The court asked that the report be filed by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), signalling the seriousness with which it is viewing the incident.
During the hearing, the Bench also instructed the police to ensure the advocate's safety and provide adequate protection. The petition before the court sought police protection, a transfer of the investigation, and stricter legal action against those accused of carrying out the assault.
