India, Sept. 9 -- The teaser of Rahul Sankrityan's much-awaited period drama Ranabaali was unveiled on Wednesday, offering a glimpse into a story of famine, colonial oppression and resistance in 19th-century South India.

Starring Vijay Deverakonda, Arnold Vosloo and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, the film is set between 1876 and 1878 and centres on a man who rises against the British rule that pushes his people towards starvation.

The two-minute teaser opens against the backdrop of the famine of 1876-78, stating that "eight million Indian lives were lost under British rule".
