New Delhi, Aug. 10 -- At least seven people were killed when a wall collapsed near Mohan Baba Mandir in Jaitpur and a two storey building collapsed in Farashkhana Chandni Chowk amid heavy rains in the national Capital, beginning Friday overnight, bringing most of the city to a standstill and turning several residential colonies into virtual swimming pools. Incessant rainfall disrupted flights and vehicular traffic, on Raksha Bandhan.
In the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Saturday, Safdarjung recorded 78.7mm, Pragati Maidan 100mm, Lodhi Road 80mm, Pusa 69mm, and Palam 31.8mm. Between 8.30am and 5.30pm, the India Meteorological Department recorded an additional 25.9mm of rainfall at Safdarjung.
