India, June 14 -- Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of failing to respond strongly after three Indian sailors were killed in a US military strike near Oman.

Gandhi criticized the Prime Minister's handling of the issue and claimed that the government's response to the United States was too weak.

The controversy began after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar regarding the ongoing Middle East crisis.

Gandhi alleged that PM Modi was acting "like an obedient servant" instead of firmly defending India's interests and seeking accountability for the deaths of Indian citizens.
