India, Nov. 3 -- A soldier on leave in Punjab's Gurdaspur district was allegedly beaten by his mother, brother and other relatives over a property dispute, his wife has claimed, in an incident that was recorded on video and is now circulating widely on social media.

The assault allegedly took place in Sainpur Abbal Khair village. According to the soldier's wife, Simmi Saini, her husband, Wazir Singh, had built a shop and had it registered in his name. She alleged that some of his brothers had encroached on his agricultural land, and that relatives summoned him near the shop on the pretext of settling the matter.
