India, June 27 -- A political controversy has erupted over major changes in the new social science textbook for Class 9 by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The bone of contention is over the omission of the Preamble and the words secular and secularism. The revised textbook, which integrates history, geography, political science, and economics into a single volume, marks a significant departure from previous editions. Among the most notable changes is the omission of the Preamble from the introductory chapter on the Constitution.
