India, Oct. 27 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) will hold a press conference to announce pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters' list on Monday. The ECI is expected to announce the first phase of the SIR, covering 10 to 15 States, including those scheduled for Assembly elections in 2026.

West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry are scheduled to go to polls next year. Some States where local body elections are ongoing or there are "peculiar circumstances" may be excluded for now.

The development comes days after the ECI organised a two-day conference of the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) to discuss SIR. The poll panel has already held two conferences with State CEOs to finalise the SIR rollout plan.
