PM Modi pushes 'Make in India' drive to reduce import dependence
India, July 16 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed key government ministries to identify products that India can manufacture locally instead of relying heavily on imports. The move aims to strengthen domestic industries, protect supply chains, and reduce the country's exposure to global economic disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions.
According to officials, the Commerce Ministry is preparing a list of more than 100 products that could see increased domestic production. These include electronics, chemicals, medicines, fertilizers, semiconductors, automobiles, and machinery. The government is also considering financial incentives and subsidies to encourage local manufacturing.
