India, May 10 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing the party of betraying its longtime ally DMK and remaining consumed by internal power struggles in Karnataka.

Addressing a BJP event in Bengaluru, Modi said Congress had relied heavily on the DMK for decades whenever the party faced political crises, particularly during Congress-led governments at the Centre before 2014.

"Just look at the situation in Tamil Nadu right now. For 25-30 years, the Congress shared a close relationship with the DMK. Time and again, the alliance with the DMK pulled the Congress out of crises," Modi said.

He alleged that Congress later distanced itself from the DMK once political equations changed.
