India, Aug. 15 -- A fast-track court in Odisha's Angul district sentenced a 23-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a girl in May last year, an official said on Friday.

The Ad-hoc Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Fast Track Special Court on Thursday pronounced its judgment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict, Satyabrata Mishra alias Kalia.

If he fails to pay the fine, the convict will undergo imprisonment for another year, the Government counsel said. The court directed that upon realisation of the fine amount, the entire sum will be paid to the victim.
