Nation marks 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour
India, Aug. 16 -- The nation commemorated the 80th Independence Day on August 15, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations at the Red Fort complex amid patriotic fervour and multi-layer security. An Army band played the tune of 'Vande Mataram' as the guests present on the occasion sang the national song. This was followed by the prime minister hoisting the national flag, and then the National Anthem was recited. For the first time, the national song, 'Vande Mataram', was rendered during the celebrations at the Red Fort.
The National Anthem rendition was synchronised with the 21-gun salute by the gunners of the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial), utilising the indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns.
