India, June 17 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 20% reduction in water supply to industrial, commercial and sports establishments as Mumbai faces a growing water shortage due to delayed monsoon rains.

The decision comes after water levels in the seven reservoirs supplying the city dropped to just 10.35% of their total capacity.

In addition to the supply cut, the civic body has suspended water connections to construction sites and swimming pools and has put a temporary hold on approving new construction-related water connections.

Officials said the measures are aimed at conserving drinking water until reservoir levels improve with the arrival of sufficient rainfall.
